Stanley M. Kolber
A Brief Biography
My Degrees are a BA from Brooklyn College and an LLB ( JD ) from the Columbia University School of Law
Served in US Department of Justice in the Kennedy Administration, returned to New York City and practiced law in the corporate and securities fields ( including related litigation). Although the law provided a long, exciting and satisfying career, 9/11, in which my 2 World trade Center office was destroyed and my secretary lost, provided an “ if not now, when? “ moment, leading me to pursue a second career in art ( propelled forward initially by an encouraging portfolio review by Ivan Karp ).
My work began with the natural world and its wildlife, of which I had long been an observer: and although my work has evolved to include fishing fleet images shot on both coasts, and shooting in New York City, shooting the natural world and its wildlife remains an undiminished passion.
My photography travels include Alaska, the Pribilofs, South Africa and Botswana, Patagonia, Belize and Costa Rica, and many of our national Parks and Wildlife Refuges including Point Reyes, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Ding Darling and the Everglades.
My work has been purchased for corporate and private collections, selected for book covers, and jury selected for the then new wing of Children’s Hospital in Boston MA. It has appeared in juried exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club in New York, the Mystic Art Center in Mystic CT, Pleiades Gallery in Chelsea ( juror, Joan Young, Curator of American Art at the Guggenheim Museum, who selected works of fourteen of four hundred mixed media submitting artists nationwide ); and was featured in a juried Holiday Exhibition at the Gallery at Firehouse Square in New London CT.
Most recently, my work, in a collection entitled Harbors of Refuge: Beauty In The Natural World, was exhibited for six weeks beginning on March 8, 2019 in the Third Floor Gallery of the Connecticut River Museum in Essex Connecticut, where, for several years now, I have in conjunction with the Museumís Eagle Festival, given Beginning Bird Photography Workshops.
In September, 2018, my book, of the birds according to their kinds, was published under the Cedar Forge imprint.
